‘Towards Solitude’, a series of paintings by Samah Ahmed opened on 18th March 2022 at the National Art Gallery. The second solo exhibition by the artist; this series highlights on the expression of solitude from the artist’s perspective.
The exhibit introduction wall reads, “This series is about solitude. Solitude to me is about ‘me time’, about freedom. Now, as I age, I find I connect with nature as if I belong there.”
Samah Ahmed who has exclusively been painting with blue for the past 20 years, uses a special technique that she has been exploring for the last two years; metal plates to move paint on the canvas.
This series of paintings intends to depict the deep connection she has with the sea and Maldives. According to Samah, most of the paintings were created after a morning swim, where she tried to paint the visuals of a calming morning surrounded by the lovely turquoise and the salty body of warm liquid of the sea.
‘Towards Solitude’ will be open for public viewing until 24th March 2022, at the National Art Gallery from 10am to 6pm and 8pm to 10pm.
