Solo exhibition by Hybridshark, titled “We Live Here” open for viewing

The first exhibition of the new gallery in town is aptly named, “We Live Here”. Curated by Ahmar of the Art Gallery of Male’, the exhibition is by a local artist Nabeel Abdulla (Mummu) who goes by the name of Hybridshark.

With 23 pieces on display, the exhibition, “describes an oceanic civilization, a nation with great seafaring traditions.” Mixing in Maldivian traditional subjects with modern art styles, the artist explores contemporary Maldivian Identity. “His paintings show how the society is losing the identity of our ancestors. Recollecting memories from its roots and sharing with the world.”

He has previously had his work exhibited in hotels and resorts locally. Hybridshark has been painting as a hobby since 10 years ago, with the purpose of escaping from “the reality of the noisy and populated city to get into another world of his imagination.” He dabbles in various mediums ranging from sculpting, painting, music and 3D modelling.

The exhibition will go on until the 28th of November 2019, and is open to the public with free entrance. The gallery will be open from 9am to 12pm, from 2pm to 5pm and 6pm to 10pm.
