The first photo exhibition by the distinguished photojournalist GMB Akash in the Maldives officially opened last night. Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Yumna Maumoon attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
“Soulscapes” present a collection of photos from 11 of his projects. A total of 55 powerful photos taken in 5 different countries ranging from Bangladesh, Nepal to Pakistan, each project focuses on an important societal issue.
Speaking on the importance of the work carried out by GMB Akash to raise awareness to prevalent social issues, the Minister expressed her hope that local photographers and journalists would seek inspiration from this work. She encouraged them to follow in similar paths to raise awareness and change public perception and consequently their actions towards those who struggle in various aspects of life.
“Soulscapes” will be held from 4th November until 6th November 2019 at the National Art Gallery in Male’. Open from 10 am in the morning until 2pm in the afternoon and from 4pm in the evening until 10pm at night, the exhibition is open for all with free entrance during these times.
