Local Artist Mohamed Ikram (Aaraka) opened his solo exhibition titled BLINKERS OFF at Avahteri Gallery. The exhibition displays 44 original charcoal and ink drawings on paper. His limited edition book, available for purchase at the exhibition, offers an extensive selection of his artworks including the 44 featured in the exhibition.
This series of work, created between December 2017 to October 2018, is described by Aaraka as “electric readings taken with ink and charcoal.” He likens his process to an automatic transmission.
The exhibition is designed to elicit an organic response from the viewer and does not try to influence their perception of the artwork. It is meant to engage and stimulate the viewer, allowing them to form their personal interpretations of the work.
With this exhibition by Aaraka, Avahteri Gallery seeks to present to the public a different kind of art work. One of their main goals with this exhibition is to increase awareness and allow the public exposure and access to different mediums and styles, thus allowing unique inspiration to manifest in those engaging with the artworks.
The exhibition will go on for 2 weeks from 13th to 26th September 2019 at Avahteri Gallery at Hulhumale’ from 4pm to 10pm.
