In My Mind – An Artistic Expression of Beautiful Minds

In my mind – an artistic expression of beautiful minds, a mental health awareness exhibition was opened today by First Lady Fazna Ahmed. This event is organized by IGMH’s Centre for Mental Health in collaboration with Rotary Club of Male’, Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage and the National Centre for the Arts. It is held to celebrate world mental health day 2019

Identifying the cathartic nature of art, with this event the organizers hope to use the power of art to express different emotions and provide a form of self expression through a creative process. Art is a tool that can be used by anyone to express themselves and is therapeutic in nature. It allows for an improved sense of self awareness in individuals that leads to exploration of emotions, identifying and resolving conflicts.

Dr. Shanooha Mansoor highlighted the incredible support received for the event, with many submissions received within a short duration. She spoke on the importance of speaking with kindness, not only to others but also to oneself.

The exhibition displays over 140 artworks from individuals between the ages of 2 to 70. It focuses on art as a form as self expression and the importance of kindness and mental wellbeing. It aims to create a platform for people to talk about mental health, breaking the stigma surrounding mental illness in the society.

The exhibition will be open for public until the 02nd of October 2019.
