Mbongeni Buthelezi, the South African artist who paints with recycled plastic is set to give the 3rd Fine Art Talk

South African artist Mbongeni Buthelezi is set to talk at the 3rd Fine Art Talk this friday, 29th of November at Coco Bodu Hithi. Known globally for his stunning artworks and his unique use of plastic as his medium of creation, the artist has had his work successfully exhibited across South Africa and internationally. He is in the Maldives as the first resident of the new art program “Nurture” by Coco Collection.

Mbongeni makes a bold statement by creating stunning artwork using plastic and a heat gun. He sees the medium as a metaphor for life stating, “I use rubbish to create something beautiful from it. I collect something that has no value and give it new life. That’s what we can do with ourselves and our lives.” He challenges artists to look at their surroundings and to broaden their perspectives by experimenting and learning new ways of creation.

During this talk he will be sharing his experience, knowledge and techniques gleaned from over 25 years working as an artist using plastic to create his artworks. Attendees will also get the opportunity to try the technique themselves and experience this unique style of creation.

This talk is organised by Fine Art Maldives with Coco Collection as the main sponsor, associate partner with Maldivian Artist Community and MVPlus as the Media Partner.
