It is held in association with the National Centre for the Arts and The Maldives National University.

Titled, “The Art of Ceramics” it includes two talks by ceramic artists, Mohammed Rezaur Rahman from Bangladesh and Gao Yanhui (Glory) from China. Rezaur is a PhD holder in Art and Ceramic Design. His work has been exhibited in Bangladesh, China and Japan. In addition to creating terracotta sculptures, he is also a researcher. With an extensive knowledge in the history of the craft he has publications in the International Society for Ceramic Art Education and Exchange (ISCAEE). Glory is a skilled ceramic artist specializing in bone china, currently working in the Tangshan College of Ceramic Arts in China. Her work has been displayed at various exhibitions in the Asia region.

Made of water and earth, clay is one of the most universal materials. Ceramics have not only played a crucial role in the human evolution, but it also allows the exploration of the depth of human creativity. Ceramic artists have contributed to the art world from the beginning of time and their creations have helped historians and archeologists learn more about ancient cultures. Though a craft as old as time, it is not the most familiar artistic medium to many. With this talk we aim to demystify the art of ceramics, consequently opening up another channel for artistic expression.
